Heading into the Home Stretch

As we enter the final month of the season there are some things to keep in mind:

STANDINGS: Even though the Ruffins lead by eight points going into today's games, a quick look at the standings shows as many as ten points are up for grabs. Additionally we have a three team race for sixth place. Anyone wanting to post a detailed accounting of the standings, and the ensuing race, on CFCL Forum is welcome to.

SEPTEMBER FREE AGENTS: Anyone you successfully bid on from the Free Agent Pool in September will be assigned an "S" contract. That means that the player is automatically released at the end of the season.

SEPTEMBER ROSTER EXPANSION: As of the games of September 1st (and any transaction day thereafter [Monday/Friday]) you are allowed to activate one additional player. There are no position requirements.

BANQUET PREPARATION: Ideally we would like to hold the ANNUAL CFCL BANQUET sometime in October during the playoffs or World Series. It doesn't always work out that way, but if we can get a head start looking at schedules for October, hopefully we can lock in an afternoon/evening.

THAT BEING SAID: I will start to compile candidates for the various Awards. It would be helpful if each of you could look at your rosters and nominate players you feel fit the various categories. I refer you to the CFCL Internet Headquarters for the awards that we give out and a description of said awards. If left up to me, I'm sure I'll leave off someone deserving of consideration. One other note - please do not submit four or five players from your team for each category. Usually teams will have one or two candidates and it is possible that you won't have any (i.e. no Rebels will qualify for consideration of MVP or Cy Young). Any help you could provide would be unbelievably appreciated.

AND A REMINDER: Winter Waivers will take place in early January, so over the next few months consider who you want to cut and who you want to keep (total of 23 keepers allowed for WW).

Sweet Spot (Trademarked by Candy Colored Clowns

Since we are done with the Trade Season and the IFAB Day, all we really have left is the pennant race and the Chase For Home Team Discount. At the close of games on Tuesday, August 3rd, the race for the Sweet Spot (trademarked by Candy Colored Clowns) shaped up this way.

4th place Mo's Red Hots 62 points .06 (Fielder, Dempster, B. Molina, Kuo, Lindstrom)
5th place Graging Bulls 61.5 points .05 (Milledge, Cantu, Montero, Billingsley, C. Jackson)
6th place Kenndoza Line 49.5 points .04 (Jimenez)
7th place Copperfields 41 points .03 (no expiring contracts)
8th place Twin Killers 38 points .03 (no expiring contracts)
9th place Morkertzuma's Revenge 34.5 points .03 (no expiring contracts)
10th place Dem Rebels 33 points .03 (Reynolds, Ianetta)

The Bulls have every incentive to gain at least a half point so they can max out the HTD Budget of .06. Dem Rebels and the Line have incentive to keep the ratio up so they get as many pennies as possible to use on Draft Day. The Copperfields, Twin Killers and Revenge are running for pride.
