Coming Down to the Trade Wire

Howdy Y'all!

It's that time of the year again where we are coming to the end of the Trading Season. Here are a couple of general reminders about the deadlines, process, etc and one twist for this year.

First the twist. What do Kelly Johnson, Chris Duncan, Khalil Greene and my wife, the Lady Rebel all have in common? They have conspired to doom the Rebels to the second division. The first three by their ineffective play, the latter by well-meaning action. By that I mean that Kim has planned a family vacation to begin this Friday (July 31st) and end next Thursday (August 6th). As you can see from the dates below, she did not consult the CFCL Constitution on Trade Deadlines and IAFB Day (actually maybe she did and this is her passive aggressive way of getting back at me for leaving her with four children all day on Draft Day).

So, since I will be out of town on the final day of the Trade Season, if you make a trade on Thursday the 31st or August 1st, please report that deal (both teams with associated moves) to Mike Coulter, CCC Owner and Sportsline God. I will still be available to receive any trades prior to the 31st.

Also (although this doesn't affect what you do) Mike will check the FAAB e-mail on Saturday and Sunday in my stead.

So let's move on to the deadlines.

CFCL TRADE DEADLINE - Noon August 1st. All trades must be reported with associated moves by noon August 1st, no exceptions.

Interleague Free Agent Bid Day (IFABD) - I give you the Constitution:

Interleague Free Agent Bid (IFAB) Day - On the day immediately following the MLB Interleague Trading Deadline, the CFCL will hold a special sealed bid auction. Players who were traded from the American League to the National League on the day of the trading deadline, as well as any other free agents, are eligible to be bid upon on IFAB Day.

Players who are traded from the American League to the National League on the same day as the MLB Interleague Trading Deadline (typically July 31) are not eligible to be bid upon until IFAB Day, even if the trading deadline occurs on a Sunday. In other words, if July 31 falls on a Sunday and an AL player is traded to the NL at 9:00 on Sunday morning, that player cannot be bid upon until the next day, even though he was in the NL prior to the 3:00 PM Sunday transaction deadline.

So - in this year's terms IFAB day is Saturday, August 1st. On Saturday, August 1st EVERYONE in the Free Agent Pool is available to be acquired. Technically you can also put in a bid the following day - our normal Sunday bid deadline, but I would think if you wanted someone, you would be bidding for them on Saturday.

The Constitution doesn't specifically say the exact time deadline for a bid - just that the IFABD is August 1st. So let's keep everything the same - 3pm on August 1st is the deadline. Any bids after 3pm will count for Sunday's bid.

Here's a recap of how much money everyone has to spend. Keep in mind these numbers could change (will change) after the bidding this weekend.

Ruffins .79
Bulls .70
Copperfields .64
MooreBetter .62
Revenge .54
Kenndoza Line .54
Rebels .48
Red Hots .44
DoorMatts .30
Clowns .28

Any bids that exceed .25 will mean that player has to be kept going into next year's draft (and cannot be traded during the off season) or a penalty of one half the salary will be assessed against your 2.60 budget.

So to recap:

  • Any trades completed on July 31st or August 1st will be reported to Mike C.
  • IAFB Deadline for bids is August 1st at 3pm.
  • All Players in the Free Agent Pool are eligible to be bid on Saturday, August 1st
  • The Rebels, instead of bidding on the latest flavor from the National League will be fighting off mice and killer whales, tra la, tra la.
