Revenge Staying Step For Step
The Revenge, not letting the Line get more than a couple of hours ahead of them, stayed step for step by acquiring some rotational help from the DoorMatts.
The Revenge sent hot hitting secondbaseman, Kolton Wong (.02 16+) and Pirate pitching prospect Nick Kingham (.02 Mx) to the DoorMatts in exchange for a pair of Jordans, Zimmerman (.12 14!) and Walden (.10 16+).
Amazingly, this did not deplete the DoorMatts roster of Jordans, only cut it in half (Schafer & Lyles remain).
With teams doing everything they can to win this year, I submit to you it will be very difficult to identify an obvious GM of the Year.

Natural Day - 2013
It was close but the DoorMatts completed their Special Day Sweep of 2013 by besting the Ruffins 54-48. Doesn't sound close? In the 8th inning of the Cardinal/Ranger game, Carlos Beltran came up with a man on first and the Ruffins trailing by six. A homerun would win it for the Ruffins, right? (homerun equals four total bases, two RBI and one run equals a total of seven to add to their 48 meaning they would beat the DoorMatts 55-54). NOT SO FAST! The guy on first was Matt Carpenter of the DoorMatts. So while Beltran, with a homerun, would have picked up seven points, Carpenter would have picked up one on his run scored. So that would have created a 55-55 tie.
Fortunately, for the DoorMatts and the scoring system, Beltran hit a sharp grounder to first forcing Carpenter at second. So no more points were accumulated. The reason I say "fortunately for the scoring system" is that we don't have a tie-breaker in place for either Special Day.
Revisions will be forthcoming, but for now Congrats to the DoorMatts on their 2013 Special Day Sweep!
Final scoring for all teams:
DoorMatts - 54
Ruffins - 48
Clowns - 46
Revenge - 37
Danger - 35
Dem Rebels - 34
Bulls - 26
Twin Killers - 25
Revenge - 24
Ryne Sandberg - 20 (1984)
Beatniks - 14

K-Wood Winner 2013
Congratulations to the DoorMatts for winning K-Wood Day. Riding the arm of Madison Bumgarner (seven strikeouts) and his bullpen (three strikeouts), the DoorMatts were the only team to reach double digits.
The Danger (Arroyo - 7 strikeouts), Killers (Maholm - 6 strikeouts) and Beatniks (Lee - 6 strikeouts) tried to make a game of it, but it was the bullpens that proved to be the difference. The DoorMatts had help from theirs and the Danger, Killers and Beatniks didn't.
A $25 gift card to mlb.com is on its way to the DoorMatts e-mail box.

A Clown and a Bentel Trade
The Candy Colored Clowns completed their triple play (third trade this off-season with a Bentel owner) in the trade arena by making the following deal with the DoorMatts:
The Clowns trade Carlos Marmol (.14 11+) and their 4th round pick to the DoorMatts for Ubaldo Jimenez (.10 10!) and the Matts 2nd round pick.
The Clowns solidified their rotation while also gathering up another high round draft pick. The DoorMatts have either added some much needed help to their bullpen or given themselves a summer long double headache (Marmol now being a 'Matt and Cub).

Clowns/DoorMatts deal
Showing that he wasn't going to stand idly by, the DoorMatts got involved in the Trade Dance by swapping middle infielders with the Clowns. The DoorMatts sent team favorite Ryan Theriot and his expiring contract to the Clowns for slugging, cement gloved Dan Uggla.

DoorMatts trade Brandon Webb to Ruffins

In a refreshing change of pace, two CFCL veterans combined on a deal today in which a contending team sent significant major league talent to their trading partner rather than a package weighted heavily toward prospects and potential as had been the trend so far this year.
Today, David's Ruffins acquired pitcher Brandon Webb (.21-08), first baseman Dmitri Young (.04-09+), and a 2nd round Draft Pick in 2009 from the DoorMatts. In return, the Ruffins gave up first baseman Joey Votto (.10-09+), reliever Chad Qualls (.01-10+), plus prospects Gerardo Parra (.05-Mx) and Thomas Hanson (.02-Mx).
Whether this value-for-value approach will work against the Ruffins, since cometeitors have gotten more in exchange for less in terms of current-season production, or if it will re-establish the trend where non-contenders demand major league talent in trades, only time will tell...
