Proving it's not over 'til it's over (did we give up when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?) the Copperfields pulled off a couple of last minute deals in their effort to overtake the DoorMatts and Kenndoza Line.
In an interesting trade between the current third and fourth place teams, the Copperfields traded Mike Stanton (.10 Mx), Miguel Montero (.01 10+), Wil Ohman (.05 11+), Matt Stairs (.05 11+) and the all important Rotation Picks from the 2nd and 7th rounds to the Bulls for Jason Werth (.32 11+), Jason Kendall (.01 11+), Joel Piniero (.05 11+), Kevin Gregg (.02 09) and the 12th and 16th pick of the Bulls.
The Copperfields also picked up some more offensive power by dealing with Moore Better.
The Copperfields traded Mike Cameron (.15 11+), Mitch Stetter (.05 11+) and Angel Villalona (.05 Mx) in exchange for James Loney (.10 09!) and Scott Hairston (.02 11+).

Stones Reacquire Stetter
Steve's Stones reacquired reliever Mitch Stetter from Moore Better. The Stones had originally dealt Stetter to the Better about three weeks ago as part of an eight-player deal.
To ransom Stetter, the Stones sent first base prospect Joe Koshansky to Moore Better.
The Stones made room for Stetter on their active roster by reserving Dan Uggla.

Stones - Moore Better Trade
First-year franchise Moore Better continued to dismantle their inaugural roster today by completing a deal with second place Steve's Stones. The move is their second trade this week, following their earlier deal with the front-running Morkertzuma's Revenge.
In their latest move, Moore Better shipped second baseman Jeff Kent (.22-09+), rehabbing catcher Paul LoDuca (.13-09+), reliever Jon Rauch (.10-09+), and infielder Ramon Martinez (.10-10+) to the Stones for pitchers Homer Bailey (.05-10+) and Mitch Stetter (.05-10+) and prospects Matt Antonelli (.10-Mx) and Brandon Jones (.10-Mx).

Revenge - Moore Better Trade
Morkertzuma's Revenge took steps today to solidfy their position atop the CFCL standings, making two strong additions to their offense in a deal with the 12th place Moore Better.
The Revenge acquired first baseman Todd Helton (.27-09+) and outfielder Andre Ethier (.17-10+) for infielder Jose Castillo (.01-10+), outfielder Gabe Kapler (.05-10+), pitcher Sean Gallagher (.02-10+), and third base prospect Andy LaRoche (.05-09+).
The acquisitions were a key strategic move for the Revenge -- although they rank 4th in the league in offense overall, they find themselves dead last in On-Base Percentage at .327. Helton's OBP of .417 and Ethier's .359 are sure to help that cause.

2008 Winter Waivers Recap
Transactions for February 10, 2008
None!
Winter Waivers
As anticiapted, there were no takers on Eddie Guardado, so our stop-and-go Winter Waivers for this year come to a close. Overall, seven teams participated in the waivers, with 15 players being claimed. That's just slightly more than half the number of players who were claimed last year.
Winter Waivers is always a mixed bag, with varying levels of available, and a number who had moved to the American League by the time they were available on waivers. The two phase approach neccessitated by the Dispersement Draft may have kept the claims lower than usual, and the process wasn't without it hiccups.
Overall, though, it was another successful set of winter action. The full list of players claimed is below -- we'll see how many of them are still around come Roster Freeze Day.
First Pitch Forums
In a few weeks, Ron Shandler will be bringing his annual caravan to Chicago in the form of his First Pitch Forums - three hours of fantasy baseball immersion. This year's session is scheduled for Sunday March 2 at Noon. I've gone to all but one or two of these since Shandler's been doing them, and highly recommend them.
After a number of years in Oakbrook, they're holding this one in Bannockburn, which I think is a suburb of Racine or something. Still, I might make the trek, particularly if I know other CFCLers will be there. Is anyone else planning to go?

Meet Mike Moore
One of our new owners, Mike Moore of Moore Better, was quick to respond to the call for Owner Profiles, and his work is now available in the CFCL Clubhouse. Watch for profiles from our other newbies, which will hopefully be coming soon.
In the meantime, you can get acquainted with Mike here:

Busy Day!
Two big bits of business were completed today:
- CFCL owners voted to adopt a number of new rules or process changes. All of the changes that the Executive Committee recommended were adopted. You can read all the details on the voting in this News Flash.
- Three new franchises joined the CFCL as Morkertzuma's Revenge, Moore Better, and Candy Colored Clowns drafted their initial rosters. I got to meet the new owners, and they all seem like great guys. A summary of the Dispersement Draft has been posted in the Draft Histories section of the website and rosters have been updated (both the Excel rosters in the Download Center and at Sportsline). It's great to be back at full strength!
Next up is the continuation of Winter Waivers, with the new owners taking a crack at the players who were left from the our inial pass. Once they've done one round with that, the players they waive will be added to the leftovers from the Dispersement Draft and we'll open the waivers up to everybody.
