End of Season Wrap Up - 2019

Congratulations to everyone on a successful 36th CFCL Season with special congratulations going to our top four finishers for making things interesting to the very end.

We are entering the dormancy period of the CFCL.  No trading allowed until the end of the first round of Winter Waivers, Mike C. will be scrubbing rosters to remove S and 19 contracts.  Download your rosters soon if you need your season ending information.

Even though we are expecting 85 degrees for the next two days as we close out September and start October, here's a reminder that Winter Waiver Cuts are due by 3pm (Central) on Sunday, January 5th, 2020.  Please provide a list of your 23 Keepers as well as a list of everyone you're cutting.  Do NOT include players with 19 or S contracts.  Technically you are not cutting them for Winter Waivers, they are already off your team as of the last out of the last game yesterday.  But include the player you are keeping and actually cutting so I can do a proper check and balance of all rosters.

Here are the Hometown Discounts for Draft Day 2020.

Noah Syndergaard

Revenge  .05

Beatniks  .05

One final piece of business.  Once you know if you will be returning, please send me an e-mail with your intention (to play in 2020 or resign).  The sooner we know the compliment of owners we have for 2020, the sooner we can address any slots to fill.

Enjoy the playoffs!

Some other resposibilities for you the owners over the next few weeks.

1)  Please contact Commissioner Bentel and let him know your intentions for next year.  If anyone isn't coming back we need to know ASAP to try and find new ownership.  Are you in or out?

2)  We need to plan the Award Banquet.  Let's assume the Line, Beatniks and Ruffins aren't coming into town for pizza and beer (although you of course are welcome to attend).  The other seven owners please e-mail Commissioner Bentel with preferable dates/days or problematic dates/days so we can find a time to celebrate.  As always majority will rule, but there is always special weight given to the newly crowned Champion's schedule.

3)  Speaking of the banquet, you will be receiving the Awards Ballot in your In Box soon (hopefully within the week).  Please take time to vote, but return it in quickly.  The Banquet cannot occur until all votes are in.  This will be repeated when the ballot is e-mailed out but "Please vote for the most deserving candidate.  Most deserving does not necessarily constitute the player on your CFCL team or your favorite National League team."

That's it for now.  See (hopefully) most of you at the banquet!

If the season ended today . . .

OK, I hate that assumption.  The season isn't ending today.  BUT there is an interesting development happening - hand in hand with the fact that teams are jumping from sixth to third in the course of a couple hours each night.  If we look ahead to the use of the Home Team Discount, here's how things stand currently.

Bulls (sitting in the sweet spot) .06
Rebels .05
Ruffins .05
DoorMatts .05
Killers .04
Danger .03
President of the Carlos Lee Fan Club .03

The standings are tightly packed and I don't ever recall this much money being in play for the HTD.  Speaks volumes to the talent of our owners, the parity we've achieved and the fact that no one has made any assinine dump trades to completely tank for the season.

Ruffins Repeat in 2011

Congratulations to the 2011 CFCL Champion - David's Ruffins! In an amazing final week of the season the Ruffins came out of seemingly no where to capture their second consecutive title and fourth overall.

Kenndoza Line gave a valiant effort but came up just short. And the Revenge, oh the Revenge. They captured the final money slot after leading for most of the year. Interestingly the Revenge fell behind the Line, into third, by losing a point to the Bulls in ERA on the final night. The Revenge didn't pitch on Wednesday. Stephen Strasbourg of the Bulls did and posted six scoreless innings, which was enough to push the Bulls past the Revenge in ERA and drop the Revenge to third.

As recently as September 22nd (SIX DAYS AGO, FOLKS!) the top four in the standings looked like this:
Revenge 76
Kenndoza Line 74.5
DoorMatts 71
Ruffins 67

Somehow, some way the Ruffins made up nine points in six days. We have had some amazing finishes in CFCL history, but this ranks right up there as the best.

Securing the Sweet Spot (trademark - Candy Colored Clowns) are the DoorMatts. They will have the use of the full compliment of the Home Team Discount budget. Here's a look at the HTD.

DoorMatts .06

Garrett Jones
Dan Uggla
Shane Victorino
Luke Gregerson
Josh Johnson
Carlos Marmol

Mo's Red Hots .05

Ryan Braun
Stephen Drew
Bronson Arroyo

Dem Rebels .04

Brian Wilson

Graging Bulls

No eligible players

Candy Colored Clowns

No eligible players

Twin Killers .02

Sergie Romo

Stranger Danger

No eligible players

Some other housekeeping notes:

- The 2011 Final Roster has been posted to the link on the right. Shortly I will be cleaning the roster of all 11(!) and S contracts, so make sure you download the end of year version soon.

- I have yet to hear any feedback on availability for the CFCL Banquet. Usually we like to make sure that the CFCL Champion is available, but I'm sure Dave won't be flying in to accept his trophy and money. So we'll revert to a majority rules decision.

- I will work on putting together the CFCL Awards Ballot as quickly as possible. If you have someone on your team that you feel deserves consideration for a specific award, please e-mail me. Keep in mind - THIS IS NOT THE ALL-STAR GAME! A player from each team does not need to be represented in each category. So whomever you submit for consideration, please make sure they are worthy of the award.

Once again, congratulations to the Ruffins! Looks like they are focused on surpassing the Copperfields for most championships in the shortest time possible.

Hometown Discount 2010

The Sportsline standings have finally settled and we now know each teams HTD for next year's draft. One thing I noticed was that Dem Rebels had four holds on Sunday which allowed them to pass the Red Hots by one S/H which allowed them to amass 30 points which allowed them to capture 50% of the maximum budget. If you noticed similar movement the last day or weekend of the season I encourage you to post a comment.

Here are the standings:

Red Hots: .06 (Dempster, Kuo, Lindstrom, Fielder, B. Molina)
Bulls: .05 (Milledge, Cantu, Montero, Billingsley)
Revenge: .04 (No Expiring Contracts)
Copperfields: .04 (No Expiring Contracts)
Kenndoza Line: .03 (Jimenez)
Twin Killers: .03 (No Expiring Contracts)
Dem Rebels: .03 (Ianetta, Reynolds)

I will post updated rosters (effectively deleting the expiring and S contracts) in about a week. That will give you time to download the end of year roster sheet.

HTD and FAAB Updates

Now that we've passed the InterLeague Trading Deadline (without waivers) and assumably most of the spirited bidding, here is an update on the Home Team Discount status as well as the remaining FAAB.

The rest of the league trying to increase their FAAB

5) Clowns .04 (Ryan Theriot, Brandon Phillips)
6) Dem Rebels .03 (Adam Dunn)
7) Ruffins .03 (David Wright, Jimmy Rollins, Jonathon Sanchez)
8) Revenge .03 (Freddy Sanchez, Brad Lidge)
9) MooreBetter .03 (Andy LaRoche, J.J. Hardy)
10) Red Hots .02 (Yadier Molina, Jose B. Reyes)

Ruffins .51
Revenge .38
DoorMatts .25
Kenndoza Line .24
Dem Rebels .18

A Correction To Your Scorecards

With less than 12 teams in the CFCL, the payout goes to the top three finisher (50/30/20). The Maximum Home Town Discount and 1st pick of the Rotation Draft goes to the Fourth Place Finisher (from here on to be known as the Sweet Spot - courtesy of M. Coulter). The sweet spot gets .06 for the HTD budget. Teams five - ten get a percentage of that based on their point proximity to the Sweet Spot.

As of the standings July 15, 2009, here are where things stand.

Bulls 66.5 pts .06 HTD
Clowns 57.5 pts .05 HTD
Rebels 50 pts .04 HTD
Moore Better 45 pts .04 HTD
Revenge 40 pts .03 HTD
Ruffins 38 pts .03 HTD
Red Hots 26.5 pts .02 HTD

Hometown Discounts

Three teams will have Hometown Discount rights to a total of six players in this year's Draft (it would have been four teams with right to seven players if Dontrelle Willis had stayed in the NL).

Details about the players who are HTD-eligible and how that will factor into the bidding on Draft Day is covered here:

In addition to being available in this post, the link above will also appear in the CFCL links sidebar to the right. As in the past, I'll update the Hometown Discount information weekly as the season progresses.
