Winter Waiver Reminder

With 27 hours and 18 minutes remaining before the deadline, we have four teams submitted and six yet to be.

Use your time wisely but please don't make me chase you down tomorrow at the deadline.  I will be out and about all day and most of the evening.  I hope to have the cuts posted before midnight.

Remember, keep 23 players, cut the rest.  Don't assume you have to cut 17.  But to avoid mistakes and mis-cuts, it helps to submit the 23 you're keeping and the players you're cutting.

Questions?  E-mail or text me.  Happy Cutting and Happy New Year!

Holiday Reminder

Nine shopping days left until Christmas, eight shopping days left until Hanukkah but the bigger issue is only 15 Decision Days left until Winter Waivers.

Your Winter Waiver cuts are due by 3pm of the first Sunday of January.  The Calendar Gods are screwing with those of you that are party animals, because the first Sunday of January in 2017 is also known as New Year's Day!  So if you are going to be doing it big on New Year's Eve, I would suggest submitting your Winter Waivers PRIOR to January 1st.

I need to receive all cuts by 3pm Sunday the 1st.  First claiming period will then be 3pm, Thursday, January 5th.

You all know the drill and the detailed rules are in the Constitution, but highlights are:

Keep 23 players.

No positional requirements.  Keep 23 catchers if you want.

No salary cap.

DO NOT get caught in the thinking that you have to waive 17 players (you had a 40 man roster last year so to keep 23 you would cut 17).  That may not be the case.  You cannot waive an "S" contract player or a "16" contract players.  Those guys have already been purged from your team.  So it's possible you currently have a roster of 35 players.  That means you only have to waive 12 players.

If you have questions, visit the Constitution.  Send me an e-mail.

Oh, and have a Happy and Safe holiday!!

2016 CFCL Champion

Congratulations to David's Ruffins for defending their title with yet another championship!  Job well done.

And congratulations to all owners this season.  There were some battles all the way to the last day of the year.

Last Minute Keepers

This Sunday, August 28th, is the final FAAB Day of the year where you get to keep the players you acquire from the Free Agent Pool.  Anyone you get tomorrow will be assigned the normal 18+ contract status.

Starting next Sunday, September 4th, anyone you purchase from the Free Agent Pool will receive an "S" contract and will be released from your team at the end of the season.

Happy Shopping!

CFCL 2016 Trade Season In The Books

Some action on the final trading day, but no huge block busters as in previous years.  Personally I think that's a good thing.

Anything can happen over the next two months, but the exit polls have spoken and the CFCL Front Office would like to congratulate the Ruffins on their 6th CFCL title.

.......that excruciating wail you just heard came from North Carolina where the Ruffins are currently cursing the Front Office and no doubt throwing things around the Professorial Manor convinced that their pennant run has just been jinxed.

Being in seventh affords me little to enjoy this season.  I have to create my own fun.

Killers and Line Limbo Under the Trade Deadline

With six minutes remaining in the trade season, the Killers and Line reported a deal.

Killers trade Tanner Roark (.10 16) to the Line for Adieny Hechavarria (.01 17+) and their 3rd round pick for 2017.

And in an interesting "Behind The Scenes But Not Quite Consummated" story, the Rebels and Clowns exchanged a flurry of five trade proposals in the last nine minutes of the trade season but just ran out of time before agreeing to a deal.

Any other interesting negotiations and just ran out of time?

Trade Deadline Day Begins

Kicking off the Trade Deadline Day early (trade reported before 7am), the Kenndoza Line make a move to shore up their bullpen by dealing Roman Quinn (.05 Mx) to the Sombreros for Pedro Baez (.04 18+).

Going For The Lock Down

Not waiting to see what the other contenders will do, the Ruffins continued to make moves to enhance their strangle hold on 1st place and their potential 6th CFCL title.

The Ruffins trade Stephen Piscotty (.05 17+), Robbie Ray (.10 18+), Eloy Jimenez (.02 Mx) and their 4th round pick for 2017 to the Revenge in exchange for Stephen Strasburg (.38 18+), Dee Gordon (.10 16!), Jayson Werth (.11 18+) and their 2nd and 9th round picks for 2017.

Trade Reminders - Both CFCL and MLB

Gentlemen, we are nearing the beginning of August.  Not only does that mean that school starts in a few short weeks for our children (and some owners),and that there is barely a week and half left of shopping days before three stellar CFCL birthdays, it means trade deadlines.  Both MLB and CFCL.

MLB - The MLB Trade Deadline this year is Monday, August 1st.  So that means the CFCL's  Interleague Free Agent Bid Day is Tuesday, August 2nd.  On Tuesday, August 2nd we can - to the limit of our FAAB - bid on players that are in the Free Agent Pool.  Most times our focus is on whatever talent has arrived from the American League.  But keep in mind that ANY player in the Free Agent Pool is eligible to be bid on.

Bids must be submitted by 3pm, August 2nd.  If you bid .25 or higher and you are the highest bidding team, you MUST keep said player heading into the 2017 draft lest you be penalize one half that player's salary (rounded up) from your 2.60 Draft Day Budget.  Think Jose Reyes and the Beatniks.

If you bid .24 or lower and acquire a player, they will be assigned an 18+ contract and you can keep, cut or trade them as normal rules allow.

Side note - some players have already come over from the American League (at least one flame thrower of prominence).  Those players are available via the normal FAAB process this Sunday (July 31st).

CFCL - The CFCL's trade deadline is Monday, August 1st at noon.  All trades AND their associated moves must be reported to the Commissioner by noon in order for them to be official.  Please don't make me have to make decisions on whether a trade is legal because one team reported it before noon and the other team didn't.  Or both teams reported it but the corresponding rosters moves were missing.

In order for any trade to be official (regardless of what part of the season it is consummated) both teams have to report the trade to the Commissioner and associated roster moves have to be reported as well.

Questions about either deadlines or the process?  E-mail, text or call me.

Purging of the Pirates

In a deal finalized this morning, Rebel management traded fan favorites Starling Martin (.20 16!) and Tony Watson (.15 17+) to the Ruffins in exchange for Joe Panik (.01 17+), Amir Garrett (.05 Mx), Corey Knebel (.03 18+) and the Ruffins first round pick in 2017.

With the trade the Ruffins make a strong statement that they are looking to lock up not only all the offensive categories, perhaps netting them a "Perfect 50" but also doing their level best to lock down title #6.

On the other side, the Rebels now have the dubious distinction of having traded every member of the Pirates stellar outfield.  They will wait patiently by their Inbox, looking for an e-mail from Clown management as to the availability of Amir Garrett.

Clowns - Line Trade (Redux)

The Line, with their sights on the top spot, made another deal with the Clowns to try and shore up their offense.

The Kenndoza Line trade Randal Grichuk (.10 17+), Alex Verdugo (.02 Mx) and Jacob Nottingham (.05 Mx) to the Clowns in exchange for Joey Votto (.39 17+) and Chris Owings (.13 16)

Thursday, July 7, 2016

DoorMatts, Killers Deal

Under the cover of darkness the DoorMatts make a move to stay in the running and the Killers work toward the future.

The DoorMatts trade Lance Lynn (.05 18+), Kolten Wong (.07 17!), Jose DeLeon (.02 Mx) and Oscar DeLaCruz (.02 Mx) to the Killers in exchange for Jonathan Papelbon (.19 16), DJ LeMahieu (.03 16) and Curtis Granderson (.15 17+).

Fourth of July Fireworks

It won't exactly match the Burr-Hamilton showdown that's been getting a lot of press lately.  But in their own way, the Clowns and Line made an effort to light some fireworks under their respective teams.

The Clowns trade Adam Wainwright (.29 18+) to the Kenndoze Line in exchange for Michael Conforto (.02 17+)

Happy 4th of July to one and all.

K Wood Day Reminder

As you rush to make your last minute roster changes for the weekend, remember that today (May 6th) is K Wood Day.  The anniversary of Kerry Wood striking out 20 Houston Astros back in 1998 (the game Owner Emeritus David Mahlan ALMOST saw).

Quick reminder on the rules.  The team that records the most strikeouts (not by their hitters - effectively leaving Dem Rebels out of the running) by the pitchers on their ACTIVE roster will receive a $25 Gift Certificate to MLB.com.

Results will be posted later tonight or tomorrow morning.  Good luck!

Swing and Revenge Trade

Trade to report, but it can't be said any better than the two teams involved.

Revenge:  The Revenge and the Swing have agreed to swap:

Danny Espinosa for Alex Guerrero.

It's the little things...

Swing:  The Swing agree to the trade (and with the sentiment). We are pleased to welcome Alex Guerrero to our reserve roster and our DL, where he will find plenty of company.

First Trade of the 2016 Season

The first trade of the 2016 season has been completed and . . . hey!  here's a surprise - it involves the Clowns.

For some reason the Clowns wanted to pick up a Chicago Cub so they approached the Beatniks and the result was:

Clowns trade Brandon Drury (.01 18+) to the Beatniks in exchange for Javier Baez (.05 18+).

Roster Cut and Draft Day Information

The cuts are in!  The numbers have been crunched.  Full Draft Prep is on.

Interesting information below.  One team has more money to spend than the GNP of most small nations.  Two .50 players were kept. Lots of big names tossed back in the pool and a fair amount of Winter Waiver players kept.

Below are some of the particulars of the cuts.  For rosters, click on the link on the right hand side or give our OnRoto Master a little time and he'll have the rosters updated there.

Deadline Deal

With four days remaining until the Roster Freeze Deadline, the Beatniks and Line pulled off a deal.

The Beatniks traded the alliterative (Beatniks words) Freddie Freeman (.34 17+) and Shawn Kelley (.05 17+) to the Line in exchange for a trove of minor leaguers:  Billy McKinney (.02 Mx), Aaron Blair (.10 Mx) and Albert Almora (.05 Mx).

Rumor has it the Beatniks wouldn't complete the deal unless Cliff Lee was thrown in.  Once they were convinced the Killers have Lee, the Beatniks completed the deal quickly and then consulted their CFCL rolodex for the number to the Killers front office.

One Week Until Roster Freeze

Gentlemen -

Here's a quick reminder of what is facing us for the next two weeks.

1)  Roster Freeze Day is one week from today.  Roster Cut Sheets are due by 3pm next Sunday (March 27th).  March 27th is also Easter Sunday.  So if chocolate bunnies and colored Easter eggs are part of your family activities that day, you may want to submit your cuts earlier in the weekend.  I will have the cuts, LTCs and money per team listed late Sunday night or Monday morning.  Due to prior commitments I won't be able to get things posted at 3:05pm like past years.  And if there are any mistakes on Roster Cut sheets, it will take me longer to post the results as I will need to clarify things.  So if you have any questions, please e-mail or call me this week.

1b)  No trades are allowed once you submit your Roster Cut Sheet.  If there are any trade discussions going on, start getting it wrapped up.

2)  Executive Committee.  To date I have received notification from two owners that they do not want to be listed on the ballot.  If I do not hear from you by next Sunday, your name will be on the ballot and you will be eligible to be elected to the EC.

3)  Draft Day is 13 days from now.  Saturday, April 2nd at noon, my office building.  I will be there between 10:30 and 11am, so feel free to arrive any time after that.  We have papers to hand out, pictures to take, trophy ball to sign, EC to elect and all of that, hopefully, will be completed by noon so we can kick off CFCL 2016 (33 years and counting.  "We're not even halfway there!") with the Ruffin Privilege at noon sharp.

4)  Speaking of the Ruffin Privilege.  We will be playing the Ruffin Privilege Game again.  With your roster cuts, submit who you think will be the first player nominated along with the winning bid.  Winner gets some amazing baseball prizes.

5)  CFCL fees are due on Draft Day.  $120 per team.  No exceptions.  I don't want to have to chase people down for money throughout the season so please bring your money to the draft.

6)  Kyle Schwarber Bobblehead Night with the Cougars.  Tickets are $13 each.  I would like to collect a final head count and money for the tickets on Draft Day.  The game is Thursday, June 16th at 6:30pm.

7)  Post Game Wrap Up.  Last year we headed to Mullen's on the corner of Naperville and Warrenville Roads after the draft.  If you're so inclined, interested owners are invited to meet up there.

8)  Refreshments.  You can bring anything you would like to get you through the day (no alcohol).  There is a refridgerator that may have some space to store some things, but I can't count on enough space for ten teams to stash their goodies.  There are vending machines with pop and candy as well as a microwave oven.  All I ask if you make sure you clean up your garbage and crumbs so we don't have an issue reserving the room for next  year.

9)  I  have saved the best for last.  Owner Emeritus David Mahlan will be there.  Now that may not seem like a big deal since David annually is generous with his time to stop by and take the official league photo.  Well THIS year he has agreed to be our Official Recorder of the Auction.  He will keep track of the bids and announce the team that acquired the player and the winning auction price.  This should prove to be invaluable to us to have the CFCL Founder on  hand keeping us accurate on our bids.

Any questions about anything, please e-mail, text or call.  See you in 13 days!

Rebels - Ruffins Deal

With 24 days remaining until Draft Day 2016, the Ruffins and Dem Rebels pulled off a blockbuster, swapping rotation picks for a marginal middle infielder.

The Ruffins trade Cesar Hernandez (.05 17+) and their 6th round pick to Dem Rebels for their 4th and 9th round picks.

Sunday, March 6, 2016

Trade For The New Guy

The  Golden Sombreros jumped into the trade pool by trading a few pitchers for some corner help.

The Sombreros trade Jonathon Niese (.02 16+) and Shelby Miller (.13 17+) to Dem Rebels for Justin Bour (.05 17+).

Prepping for Draft Day 2016

I was looking at the calendar this morning and suddenly realized that Draft Day is 30 days away.  Don't know how this is possible, but it looks like that's the case.

So there are some things to take care of before Saturday, April 2nd (Draft Day).

I will be sending out the Roster Cut Sheets early next week (possibly this weekend).  These are due back to me no later than Sunday, March 27th at 3pm Central time.  That also happens to be Easter so if you look for eggs or do other big activities that day, you may want to get me your cuts before the 27th.

My goal is to have the cuts and Draft Day Rosters out to you by the night of the 27th, I can't promise that because I don't know when I'll receive all your cuts.  The earlier I get them, the more likely I can turn it around on the 27th.  But I know you need all the time necessary to make final decisions on your players.

Keep in mind the following for making cuts and positioning your players on the roster.  At this point, EVERY PLAYER belongs on your ACTIVE roster.  You have to find justification to move them to the reserve list.  Such justification is if a player gets demoted to the minors, or gets placed on the DL.  Being suspended or day to day with an injury does not allow him to start on your reserve list.

You may keep no more than 15 National League players and 4 Minor League players.  If you want to keep more minor leaguers then you have to reduce your NL players by the same amount.  Essentially you cannot walk into the draft with more than 19 players.  Any questions?  E-mail me or read the Constitution.

On Draft Day we will be taking the league photo, handing out paperwork, discussing last minute changes to the Master Draft Sheet and collecting fees before David Holian kicks off the festivities with the Ruffin Privilege.

Fees - I will collect $120 from all owners.  You can write a check payable to me or give me cash at the draft.  If you want, you can send your fees earlier.  E-mail or text me for my address.  Please make sure that you submit fee payment no later than Draft Day.  I don't want to chase people down after the Draft.

Cougar Game - Happily EVERY in town owner has verbally committed to going to the Cougar game on June 16th (Schwarber Bobblehead Night).  On Draft Day I will be asking for a final head count from each of you and for payment of the tickets.  Right now, the tickets are $13 each.  Shortly after Draft Day I will reach out to my contact at the Cougars to place the order.  There is a good chance that he will offer us a discount on the price of the tickets, but I don't know that for sure.  If he does, I'll give you back the excess at the game.  Because we're a decent sized group (so far we're looking at roughly 20 people attending) I want to get the order in early so we can get decent seats all together.  Remember - the more the merrier.  Bring your family.  Bring friends.

Trade Deadline - Quick reminder.  You are allowed to make trades up until the time that you submit your roster cuts to me.  Once you submit your cuts, you cannot make any trades or changes to your roster - no exceptions.  So if you want to submit your cuts on Thursday because you have a busy weekend, bless you.  That's great.  But if on Saturday you get an amazing trade offer, you cannot accept.

Post Draft Wrap Up - Like last year, any interested owners wanting to gather to recap the draft or just hang out are welcome to do so.  It seemed like an easy fit to meet at the restaurant/bar at the northeast corner of Naperville and Warrenville Roads.

While we plan to kick off the Ruffin Privilege at 12 noon, there are a few things to take of before the draft starts so if you can arrive around 11:30 that would be great.  I will be there between 10:30 and 11am, so you are welcome to come between then and 11:30.

Address is:  4300 Commerce Court (Suite 300) in the Daily Herald Building, Lisle, IL 60532.

Looking forward to seeing you all on the 2nd!!

Kenndoza Line and Rebels Strike a Deal

The Kenndoza Line sent newly acquired Jace Peterson (.03 17+) packing with middle infield prospect stud Orlando Arcia (.05 Mx) to Dem Rebels in exchange for Clayton Kershaw (.51 17+).

Dem Rebels freed up some salary for draft day be getting rid of their best player and shored up both the middle of their infield and continued to replenish their decimated minor league system.

What? Another Clown Trade?

Showing they are an equal opportunity trader, the Candy Colored Clowns even struck a deal with a team that could offer no Reds in return.

The Clowns trade Jung-Ho Kang (.01 17+) to the Revenge in exchange for Billy Hamilton (.05 16+) and Eugenio Suarez  (.08 17+)

Winter Waivers 2015

The first step to building your 2016 Championship Team begins today.  Below are the players who were waived and are eligible to be claimed.  Once claimed they will have a "W" contract.  If they are kept going into the 2016 season, the contract will convert to 18+.

Everyone currently should have a roster of 23 players.  But regardless, for every player you claim during Winter Waivers, you MUST waive a player from your roster.  When you submit your list of claims, make sure to put them in order of preference.  You will receive the first player on your list, if that player is still available.  If you submit three claims but only list two player to waive, the maximum players you will claim is two.

Any questions?  E-mail me.   The first round of Winter Waivers expires Thursday, January 7th at 3pm.  Submit your claims prior to then.
