Morkertzuma's Revenge - 2014 CFCL Champions!

Congratulations to Tim and Morkertzuma's Revenge for climbing the mountain and firmly planting their 2014 Championship Banner!  It was a hard fought battle between them and the Line and both owners should be proud of the run they made to try and win.

Next on the agenda, CFCL Award Ballots and ultimately the CFCL Banquet.

Kenn has graciously offered to handle putting together, distributing and collecting the award ballots.  If you have anyone on your team you would like to make sure gets consideration, please e-mail Kenn to help make his job a little easier.

As was agreed upon at last year's banquet, we have decided to move our festivities to more of a sports bar atmosphere rather than at a sit down restaurant like Home Run Inn for the past umpteen years.  We're hoping the new environment will allow for easier mingling, sports watching and award distribution.  Stay tuned for time and location.

Some other resposibilities for you the owners over the next few weeks.

1)  Please contact Commissioner Bentel and let him know your intentions for next year.  If anyone isn't coming back we need to know ASAP to try and find new ownership.  Are you in or out?

2)  We need to plan the Award Banquet.  Let's assume the Line, Beatniks and Ruffins aren't coming into town for pizza and beer (although you of course are welcome to attend).  The other seven owners please e-mail Commissioner Bentel with preferable dates/days or problematic dates/days so we can find a time to celebrate.  As always majority will rule, but there is always special weight given to the newly crowned Champion's schedule.

3)  Speaking of the banquet, you will be receiving the Awards Ballot in your In Box soon (hopefully within the week).  Please take time to vote, but return it in quickly.  The Banquet cannot occur until all votes are in.  This will be repeated when the ballot is e-mailed out but "Please vote for the most deserving candidate.  Most deserving does not necessarily constitute the player on your CFCL team or your favorite National League team."

That's it for now.  See (hopefully) most of you at the banquet!

Wrapping Up 2011

The Ruffin captured The Copperfield Ball for the second year in a row and all that's left is handing out the awards. To that end, the ballots have been e-mailed. Here are some things we have to work on now.

Please vote for each category and get your ballots back as soon as possible. I need each owner to submit their votes. Last year there were some categories that literally came down to the final voter.

Once we have the ballots back we can then officially have our banquet. We'll do it again at Home Run Inn in Darien on 75th street. Please let me know your availability for Friday, Saturday or Sunday afternoons/evenings. So far only one owner has mentioned any possible availability.

I also need everyone to let me know their intentions of returning next year or not. As a courtesy to the league, if you know you're not returning, letting us know early is best. The league will have to consider a replacement owner(s) and with Winter Waivers looming a few months from now, having an owner in place to that is paramount.

That gets us to Winter Waivers. Certainly you don't have to submit your cuts until, as it turns out, 3pm on New Year's Day (the first Sunday in January). This is just an early reminder in case you want to start thinking about who your keepers are. I would encourage each of you to visit the Constitution and read (or re-read) the rules of Winter Waivers so you have a clear understanding on how it works.

A new roster (without expiring contract players and "S" contract players) has also been posted at the link on your right.

So to wrap up. Two very important items at this point. VOTE! And let me know if you're coming back for CFCL 2012 (We're Not Even Halfway There!)

Banquet and End of the Year Updates

Fellow Owners, first of all thank you for your responses for banquet availability and award nominees. From those of you that have responded (Kenn and Professor, whatup? To good to provide us with your banquet availability?) it looks like Sundays have the least conflict (aside from Grage needing to follow his seventeen fantasy football teams). That being said, let's narrow it down a bit. Please e-mail me or click on the comment section below to register your vote.

1) October 10th
2) October 24th

October 3rd may be too fast a turn around to get the ballots out and collected. I have a late soccer game to attend on the 17th (which doesn't actually mean we couldn't have it then, I just would be late or lacking in attendance) and the 31st is Halloween so those of us with kids will be busy raking in tons of goodies.

Let's assume something in the late afternoon/early evening since Monday is a workday for most of us. We'll plan on something in the 4-5pm range at the latest tradition in CFCL Banquet, Home Run Inn on 75th in Downers Grove.

More later.

CFCL Banquet 2009

Fellow CFCL Citizens!

The Banquet wrapping up the 2008 CFCL Season is complete. Ownership representing the Copperfields, Rebels, Revenge, Bulls and Hots were in attendance to partake of delectable sausage pizza and various brews. Per usual David handled the awards ceremony with aplomb. As it turns out the Red Hots were this year's version of Slumdog Millionaire, garnering nearly every award including the prestigious Paul Mahlan Award and the GM of the Year Award. The only trophy he avoided taking home (other than the Championship) was The Nick Esasky Award - won by the Kenndoza Line for their sterling pickup of Andruw Jones.

Once the awards were handed out and most of the pizza was gone, we turned to league business. The only topic that made the table was trading. After reviewing why this became an issue and briefly referencing all the suggestions that have been posted to the CFCL Forum Board, it was generally decided that this still is a Gentlemen's League and therefore we shouldn't want to or have to legislate how a team trades. What was agreed upon was that each owner should be reminded that the draft is first and foremost the way a team will be successful and trades should supplement that, not necessarily make up for a poor draft.

Throughout the season the Commissioner's office and/or the Executive Committee will provide reminders that should suffice in handling the issues from the past couple of years.

A good time was had by all. Pitchers and catchers report in 17 days!

Round 2 Waiver Claims are due to Rich (demreb@sbcglobal.net) by Sunday, January 11th at 3pm. Same rules apply, claim one – waive one.

Since the Round One of Winter Waivers is complete - - - The Trading Season is now open! You may trade from now until Roster Freeze Day.

Housekeeping:
With a unanimous voice the CFCL has voted (10-0) to play 2009 with ten teams and 40 roster slots (23 active/17 reserved). Discussion will take place during the season on whether to continue with that structure for 2010 and beyond or add teams or increase roster size.

On the CFCL Home Website (David’s Blog) the link for Home Town Discounts has been updated.

On that same website the link for the Rosters has been updated through the First Round of Winter Waivers. After the second round of waiver is complete the two Ownerless Teams will be removed. You have one more chance to see the names of the players from those teams that have been released into the Free Agent Pool and will be available on Draft Day.

Thank you to all who have responded for the Banquet. We will have the Banquet on Saturday, January 24th at 6pm. The location is Home Run Inn on 75th street just east of I-355. See you there!
