Say Hello to Tim and Michael

At long last Tim Morkert and Michael Coulter have joined fellow rookie Mike Moore online, as their team profiles are now available in the CFCL Clubhouse.

Actually, Tim and Michael both sumbitted their profiles the say after Mike did, and I had the basics posted a day or two after that. However I just now got around to giving them the full CFCL, hyperlinked treatment. If you haven't done so, be sure to stop by and get acquainted with the rest of our new trio:

Winter Waivers Continues

After a brief hiatus while we identified three new owners and established their initial rosters, Winter Waivers is now back and ready to continue.

We'll begin by allowing the new owners to submit waiver claims for players who had cleared waivers during Winter Waivers Part 1. They'll be selecting players from this pool:
Winter Waivers Part 2, Round 1 (new owners only)

They will have until 6:00 PM Central time on Sunday February 3 to sumbit their claims.

The players they waive as a result of this initial round will then go through waivers which will be open to all 12 franchises. Along with the players waived on Feb. 3, teams will also be able to select from the players who were left over from last weekend's Dispersement Draft. This waiver pool can be viewed here:
Winter Waivers Part 2, Round 2 (full league).

This second waiver period will last until 6:00 PM Central time on Thursday February 7. We'll then continue the Winter Waivers process as usual -- subsequent rounds until we have a round where no one is selected.

Looking at what's available out there, I wouldn't blink - you may miss this second part of Winter Waivers. That round where no on is selected may come quickly...

Busy Day!

Two big bits of business were completed today:

  • CFCL owners voted to adopt a number of new rules or process changes. All of the changes that the Executive Committee recommended were adopted. You can read all the details on the voting in this News Flash.
  • Three new franchises joined the CFCL as Morkertzuma's Revenge, Moore Better, and Candy Colored Clowns drafted their initial rosters. I got to meet the new owners, and they all seem like great guys. A summary of the Dispersement Draft has been posted in the Draft Histories section of the website and rosters have been updated (both the Excel rosters in the Download Center and at Sportsline). It's great to be back at full strength!

Next up is the continuation of Winter Waivers, with the new owners taking a crack at the players who were left from the our inial pass. Once they've done one round with that, the players they waive will be added to the leftovers from the Dispersement Draft and we'll open the waivers up to everybody.

Player Pool for 2008 Dispersement Draft

Sometime in the hopefully near future our new owners will gather to select 23 players apiece from the players Eric, Teddy, and Paul left behind. These players were removed from the most recently-posted version of the Excel rosters, but so everyone will know who's available to the new franchises, here's the 2008 Dispersement Draft Pool (Excel format).

Back at Full Strength
The CFCL is back at its compliment of 12 franchises as Tim Morkert, Michael Moore, and Michael Coulter are set to join the ranks of the CFCL as the 36th, 37th, and 38th owners in the leagues 25-year history.

The three new owners were among 8 people to express interest in the open positions, and went up against two other candidates in a Final Five competition for the three spots.

The teams will get their initial rosters in the coming weeks by selecting from those players previously owned by the Lambchops, Da Paul Meisters, and Splendid Splinters. We're hoping to hold this winter draft "live" and hold it at a time and place where some of the current CFCLers can attend to meet the new guys.

Michael, Tim, and Michael welcome to the CFCL, guys!

Draft Day - Last Call
We're getting ready to set Sunday March 30 as Draft Day 2008. We'll give it to the end of the week for people to raise objections. If I don't hear from anyone that there's a problem with the 30th, we'll call it official -- assuming the room is available for us, of course.

Rule Changes and Entrance Fee for 2008
The Executive Committee will be preparing their recommendations on the proposed rule changes for 2008. Once they are set, a ballot for voting by the entire league will be distributed, so keep an eye on your e-mail.

Part of that ballot will be the voting for the Fee Escalation as specified in the Constitution, which calls for a vote to be held at least every other year on increasing the current entrance fee by $5 per team. Since the Fee Escalator Clause was adopted in 2002, the CFCL owners have never voted to raise fees.

First Pitch Forum in March
Ron Shandler's First Pitch Forum has become something of an un-official meeting place for CFCL owners in recent years. The Chicago forum this year has been scheduled for March 2. If you're interested in attending, be sure to make a note on your calendar.
