On a sad note, Julio Franco bid farewell to baseball recently, announcing his retirement after 23 MLB seasons.
Franco was one of the few (maybe the only?) active player who had been in the majors when the CFCL was founded. I'm not sure there are any other left ... something for me to research a bit.
There's another tie between Franco and the CFCL, though, as it's clear that developments in our league were what led Franco's decision. The departure of Da Paul Meisters from the league cut off Franco's absolutely last opportunity to be rostered in a Rotisserie League. With that hope no longer there, Franco figured it was time to call it quits.
