Fellow CFCL Citizens!
The Banquet wrapping up the 2008 CFCL Season is complete. Ownership representing the Copperfields, Rebels, Revenge, Bulls and Hots were in attendance to partake of delectable sausage pizza and various brews. Per usual David handled the awards ceremony with aplomb. As it turns out the Red Hots were this year's version of Slumdog Millionaire, garnering nearly every award including the prestigious Paul Mahlan Award and the GM of the Year Award. The only trophy he avoided taking home (other than the Championship) was The Nick Esasky Award - won by the Kenndoza Line for their sterling pickup of Andruw Jones.
Once the awards were handed out and most of the pizza was gone, we turned to league business. The only topic that made the table was trading. After reviewing why this became an issue and briefly referencing all the suggestions that have been posted to the CFCL Forum Board, it was generally decided that this still is a Gentlemen's League and therefore we shouldn't want to or have to legislate how a team trades. What was agreed upon was that each owner should be reminded that the draft is first and foremost the way a team will be successful and trades should supplement that, not necessarily make up for a poor draft.
Throughout the season the Commissioner's office and/or the Executive Committee will provide reminders that should suffice in handling the issues from the past couple of years.
A good time was had by all. Pitchers and catchers report in 17 days!
