In a blockbuster trade the Rebels and Bulls made a deal using each team's strengths.
The Rebels shored up their current and future offense in acquiring Drew Stubbs (.05 11+) and Michael Stanton (.10 Mx) and the Bulls 13th round 2011 Rotation pick by trading off some of their starting pitching. The Bulls received Hiroki Kuroda (.06 10), Wandy Rodriguez (.08 11!) and Derek Lowe (.17 11+).
While initially this has the flavor of the first dump trade of the season, closer inspection may prove otherwise. Dem Rebels needed to improve their failing offense. With early disappointment coming from off season Free Agent signee, Raul Ibanez, Stubbs provides some instant spark. And if the reports coming out of the minors are true, Stanton could be roaming the Marlin outfield by mid-June. That would give the Rebels a starting outfield of McCutchen, Stubbs and Stanton with Ibanez and Maybin providing added support.
The Bulls needed to improve their pitching and had offense and minor league prospects to burn. Both teams should benefit from this deal this year and beyond.
