Happy Holidays to all!
With Hanukkah, Christmas and New Year's dominating our attention, I just wanted to throw out a quick reminder that Winter Waivers will take place at 3pm on Sunday, January 7th.
So that means you need to submit to the Commissioner your list of keepers (and preferably your cuts so I can do a proper accounting). You are required to keep 23 players. There are no position restrictions, no salary cap, no minor leaguer cap. You are allowed to keep players on your roster that are currently with American League teams. You keep 23 players and jettison everyone else.
When you submit your list DO NOT list expired contracts among your cuts. They are not yours to cut as they technically left your roster when the last out was recorded for the 2017 season.
I will do my best to post a list of available players that evening and you will have until Thursday, January 11th at 3pm to submit your claims.

Sombreros are the champions
The weekend stage was set for excitement. Four teams, two points and plenty of movement potential. But the Sombreros saved just enough games and stole enough bases to thwart any potential surge from the Ruffins or Line.
Still having four teams finish with over 70 points and within three points of each other is amazing.
For those of you taking advantage of the next four days before Nationals/Cubs ramps up, here are the HTD discounts for Draft Day 2018.

Final Day
One day, a point and a half, three teams.
Heading into the final day the Sombreros hold a half point lead over the Ruffins. To trigger the tie breaking rules, the DoorMatts would need to steal two bases OR the Ruffins would need a QS (without the DoorMatts getting one) OR the Rebels would need 3 Holds/Saves (without the Sombreros getting one). This may not seem as impossible as it sounds since the Rebels have Corey Knebel and THREE Arizona Diamondbacks active. So if Arizona had a lead in the 6th, and we know managers are not letting starters go much beyond the 5th inning, all it would take is for the D-Backs to run out DeLarosa, Hernandez and Bradley to secure the win and give the Ruffins half a point.
If only one of these scenarios plays out, we have a tie, so we go to the tie breaker - head to head categories. The Ruffins lead the Sombreros in 5 categories and the Sombreros lead the Ruffins in 5 categories. So we go to tie-breaker #2.
AB+BB+(3xIP) Team with the highest number wins.
Heading into Sunday:
Sombreros = 11,327.1
Ruffins = 11,202
Sombreros lead by 110.1 which has actually increased since the games started on Friday.

Three Days, Four Teams, Three Points
With 33 previous seasons in the CFCL books, it's hard to identify if this weekend is completely unprecedented. It may be. If not, it doesn't have many roommates.
Heading into the final weekend, four teams are separated by three points for the championship (and one point separates the top three teams).
Doing a quick eyeball of the standings, there is plenty of opportunity for movement, so almost anything can happen, but adding to the equation is that many NL teams out of the hunt and those already locked into playoff slots, may not be playing their regulars. So there's just as good a chance that nothing will change in three days.
Here's what could happen.
Sombreros (76 points) have the opportunity to get a point in the standings, but could also lose a point.
Ruffins (75 points) have the opportunity to gain a point, but could lose as many as three.
Kenndoza Line (75 points) have the opportunity to gain two points, but could lose one.
Revenge (73 points) could lose a point.
None of the above numbers are official - more just an educated guess. What is almost certain is that the Live Scoring link could crash from massive refreshing.
Good luck to all involved!

August 1st is a busy day and other reminders
Gentlemen -
A couple of quick reminders as we near the end of July.
August 1st is the CFCL trade deadline. Any trades must be completed by noon (Central Time), August 1st. In order for the trade to be legal and official both teams must report the trade to the Commissioner WITH associated moves to keep their rosters legal. It is not on the shoulders of the Commissioner or OnRoto Guru to chase down owners involved in a trade to get follow up moves in order to make the trade legal. If all components aren't reported by noon August 1st, the trade will not be allowed.
** Reminder on trades - Over the years we have had a flurry of trades toward the trade deadline. This year has seen a ton of activity already. Please keep in mind when offering deals and accepting offers, this league is different than on-line leagues. Owner Emeritus Mahlan worked very hard to create a culture of a "Gentleman's League" and honor and class. That wasn't always honored by owners and eventually they left the league.
When offering or accepting a trade, it's important to identify the equity of the deal. Making a lopsided deal may help your team, but it also dramatically impacts the other owners competing for advancement in the standings. There is a chance it could create bad feelings and animosity among owners if lopsided deals are consummated. There could be a view that an owner getting less in return could be giving up on the season. It could be viewed that the owner getting less in return is trying to determine the champion of the league by playing favorites. Any number of interpretations.
It is incumbent upon both owners involved in a trade to make sure there is equity in the deal and not focus on how bad he can screw the other owner involved in the trade. **
August 1st is also the day after the MLB trade deadline which means it's Interleague Free Agent Bid Day. This year August 1st is on a Tuesday, so by 3pm Tuesday August 1st all teams can make bids on ANY player listed in the player pool at OnRoto, whether that player came over in a recent Interleague trade or not. All rules apply on IFAB Day as a regular Sunday. You are limited to the remaining FAAB budget you have and any bids over .24 means the player musts be kept going into next year's draft.

Draft Day Information
I am sure you are all hard at work prepping for the draft. Since pitchers and catchers have reported and the first Spring Training game is this weekend, I thought it a great time to provide some Draft Day information.
More information will come as we get closer to Draft Day 2017 (Saturday, April 1st) but here is a taste.
League Fees: League fees for 2017 are $120 just like last year. If you want to send in your fees to me before Draft Day, that's fine. E-mail or text me and I'll give you my home address if you don't already have it. If you want to wait until Draft Day, that's fine too. Bring cash or check for $120. Please don't make me chase you down for your fees by forgetting to bring them on Draft Day. It's February 24th. You have 37 days to plan, remember and figure out when you want to pay.
Draft Start: I don't believe there was a hard and fast consensus on the start time, but I think we narrowed it down to 10ish. So let's say we plan to start at 10am. I should be there no later than 9:30 and thus you are welcome to arrive anytime after 9:30. Out of courtesy to your fellow owners, we're going to start at 10. Don't arrive at 9:59 (or 10:01). I would like to hit the ground running at 10am with final draft day list updates, EC election and other league business.
Draft Location: We will be utilizing the same conference room we've been in for the last number of years at my office. We've done a great job of leaving the room as clean or cleaner than when we arrived so let's keep that going. You can use a microwave in the kitchen, there is limited fridge space to utilize and vending machines if you are so inclined. Closer to draft I will e-mail everyone my office address.
WiFi: From what I've been told from my business associates we have wi-fi access. I don't know if it extends all the way down the hall to the conference room, so don't count on it 100%. I know the internet can be accessed with plug in card things or cell phones. I won't say there's internet restrictions since in this day and age everyone most likely has access. But I will say THERE WILL BE NO INTERNET DELAYS. When we are bidding on a player during the draft or selecting players in the rotation rounds, we're not going to wait for someone to reload a webpage or wait for buffering issues.
Post Draft Hoopla: There has been talk about owners getting together for dinner/drinks after the draft is complete. That will most likely happen on a "as can" basis depending on everyone's schedules.
Home Team Discount: Below are the teams/budgets/players eligible with HTD.

Winter Waiver Round 2 Adjustment
Dem Rebels submitted an incomplete and therefore illegal Winter Waiver Claim by trying to waive the same players they waived in Round 1.
Therefore their claims were nullified and for Round 2 only Jhonny Peralta is available for claiming.

Reminders and Important Information
While you are contemplating your Winter Waiver selections a few of you have e-mailed asking about Draft Day.
A month or more ago I asked for your preference on a few drafting dates. You all responded and . . . I didn't tell you anything. I apologize. Draft Day, by unanimous decision will be Saturday, April 1st. I believe there was a general consensus that we start a bit earlier than normal (suggested times ranged from 10-11am). We can lock in the specific time, but know that the draft is April 1st at my office.
At the completion of the first round of Winter Waivers (3:01pm Thursday, January 5th - today actually) the CFCL Trade Season is open. You are free to make trades of any sort. Keep in mind that if you make a lopsided (2 for 3, for example) trade and you now have either 24 or 22 men on your roster, should you claim someone in an ensuing Winter Waiver round, you are required to waive a player. You no longer have to maintain a 23 man roster.
All trades need to be submitted to the Commissioner to be official.

Winter Waivers
The cuts are in and the rebuilding, retooling begins. Claims are due by 3pm, Thursday, January 5th. We had some deadline issues with the cut submission. To be fair to everyone in the league, if your claims are not in my InBox at 3pm, the claims will not count. 3:01pm CST is not 3:00. Remember, for each player you claim, you MUST waive a player.
When you make your claims, put them in the order you want them. You will receive your top prioritized player not already claimed by a team in a position higher than you.
