Gentlemen, we are nearing the beginning of August. Not only does that mean that school starts in a few short weeks for our children (and some owners),and that there is barely a week and half left of shopping days before three stellar CFCL birthdays, it means trade deadlines. Both MLB and CFCL.
MLB - The MLB Trade Deadline this year is Monday, August 1st. So that means the CFCL's Interleague Free Agent Bid Day is Tuesday, August 2nd. On Tuesday, August 2nd we can - to the limit of our FAAB - bid on players that are in the Free Agent Pool. Most times our focus is on whatever talent has arrived from the American League. But keep in mind that ANY player in the Free Agent Pool is eligible to be bid on.
Bids must be submitted by 3pm, August 2nd. If you bid .25 or higher and you are the highest bidding team, you MUST keep said player heading into the 2017 draft lest you be penalize one half that player's salary (rounded up) from your 2.60 Draft Day Budget. Think Jose Reyes and the Beatniks.
If you bid .24 or lower and acquire a player, they will be assigned an 18+ contract and you can keep, cut or trade them as normal rules allow.
Side note - some players have already come over from the American League (at least one flame thrower of prominence). Those players are available via the normal FAAB process this Sunday (July 31st).
CFCL - The CFCL's trade deadline is Monday, August 1st at noon. All trades AND their associated moves must be reported to the Commissioner by noon in order for them to be official. Please don't make me have to make decisions on whether a trade is legal because one team reported it before noon and the other team didn't. Or both teams reported it but the corresponding rosters moves were missing.
In order for any trade to be official (regardless of what part of the season it is consummated) both teams have to report the trade to the Commissioner and associated roster moves have to be reported as well.
Questions about either deadlines or the process? E-mail, text or call me.
