At long last Tim Morkert and Michael Coulter have joined fellow rookie Mike Moore online, as their team profiles are now available in the CFCL Clubhouse.
Actually, Tim and Michael both sumbitted their profiles the say after Mike did, and I had the basics posted a day or two after that. However I just now got around to giving them the full CFCL, hyperlinked treatment. If you haven't done so, be sure to stop by and get acquainted with the rest of our new trio:

2008 Winter Waivers Recap

Winter Waivers
As anticiapted, there were no takers on Eddie Guardado, so our stop-and-go Winter Waivers for this year come to a close. Overall, seven teams participated in the waivers, with 15 players being claimed. That's just slightly more than half the number of players who were claimed last year.
Winter Waivers is always a mixed bag, with varying levels of available, and a number who had moved to the American League by the time they were available on waivers. The two phase approach neccessitated by the Dispersement Draft may have kept the claims lower than usual, and the process wasn't without it hiccups.
Overall, though, it was another successful set of winter action. The full list of players claimed is below -- we'll see how many of them are still around come Roster Freeze Day.
First Pitch Forums
In a few weeks, Ron Shandler will be bringing his annual caravan to Chicago in the form of his First Pitch Forums - three hours of fantasy baseball immersion. This year's session is scheduled for Sunday March 2 at Noon. I've gone to all but one or two of these since Shandler's been doing them, and highly recommend them.
After a number of years in Oakbrook, they're holding this one in Bannockburn, which I think is a suburb of Racine or something. Still, I might make the trek, particularly if I know other CFCLers will be there. Is anyone else planning to go?

New Home for CFCL Internet Headquarters
If you've visited the CFCL page (http://members.aol.com/dmahlan/index.html) anytime in the past few days, you may have noticed a rather disturbing development -- huge banners across the top of the page. One labeling the page as belonging to AOL Hometown and one above that for an AOL advertiser. What the????
Ok, I realize that some of you will reply that it's my own damn fault for belonging to AO-Hell, but, hey, the rest of the family likes it and it's always been a cheap (as in, free with my AOL membership) and fairly convenient host for the CFCL page.
These ads don't sit well with me, however, so I'm taking my HTML and going home. To a new home, that is. From now and for the foreseeable future, the CFCL page will be hosted at Comcast:
A number of the history pages will continue to live at Geocities, because with the Draft Day audio clips and historical documents, those sections of the site take up a ton of space. Most of the day-to-day things will be at Comcast, though, and should remain ad-free.

Winter Waivers, Part 2 Round 2 Results

And so we trickle on, with just one claim this round. That one claim, though, steams us into Round 3. Those of you who want to stake your claim on Steady Eddie will need to do so by 6:00 PM Central time on Sunday February 10.
If, however, Guardado goes unclaimed, that will be the end or Winter Waivers for this year, and we can turn our sights toward Spring Training and beyond that, Draft Day 2008.

Bartman Barack?
I can't really afford to collect baseball cards anymore, so I've enjoyed browsing through the 1988 Topps blog I posted about yesterday (showing up this morning - Les Lancaster!).
Not content with just 1988, I started exploring some of the links on that blog's sidebar, and came across another blog that posted about a special insert series in this year's Upper Deck set - Presidential Perdictors. These cards feature cartoon portrayls of a number of presidential candidates as legendary players/fans from their "home" towns. Obama as Jermaine Dye (though clearly he's being portrayed as Steve Bartman), Guiliani as Jeff Maier, Mitt Romney as Carlton Fisk, etc.

Notably absent - Hillary Clinton. Not sure if that reflects Upper Deck's opinion of her chances in the '08 elections (though she's already outlasted 4 of the 7 of the guys in the set), a males-only bias, or what. Given Clinton's Chicago connection, Hillary as Marla Collins would have been a natural (and we all would have been grateful that it was a cartoon representation rather than Hillary actually posing in Marla's short shorts "in the flesh"). Still, it's a fun set. There's even an bonus "wild card" featuring John Stewart (as Nolan Ryan) wailing on Bill O'Reilly (as Robin Ventura). Classic.

Virtual Awards Banquet
One of the more popular features of our annual CFCL Awards Banquet (along with the pizza, awards announcements, all-time history packet, and always sparkling conversation), is the opening of some vintage baseball card packs. I was happy to be able to continue the tradition last year after having run out of pack the year before, but I got a new stash and hopefully we'll be able to keep it going.
And now, you'll be able to experience that same thrill (kind of) right there in front of your computer monitor. I just came across a blog that is working through the 1988 Topps set (20th Anniversary), posting images and thoughts about each card, one by one.

Winter Waivers, Part 2 Round 1 Results

Presenting the first official transactions of our three new franchises (well, one of them anyway)...
Winter Waivers Part 2 Round 2 (the players waived above PLUS the leftovers from the Dispersement Draft) will expire at 6:00 PM Central time on Thursday February 7.
Constitutional Update
I'm nearly done updating the Constitution with the recently-adopted revisions, and will get the new version posted as soon as possible. The rules surrounding transactions will clearly require the heaviest revisions and could probably stand a full re-write, so what I may do is post an interim version with all the changes incorporated and then work on doing a more detailed revision to the Articles covering the transactions.
One More Vote
We've got one last item to vote on... our fees for 2008. Several years ago we added a clause to the Constitution - the Escalator Clause. This rule states that every year we should vote on whether to raise the annual fees by $5 per team. If adopted, that full amount ($60) would go to prize pool. This would increase the winner's share by $30, second place by $15, third by $9, and fourth by $6. In addition, if we increase the fees in 2008, we would not vote on another increase until 2o10.
Since anything affecting fees is a significant change, it was decided that a Yes vote from 75% of the owners would be required to adopt the increase. Since adding the clause, the motion to increase fees has been defeated every year, but that's not going to stop us from trying again.
I'll be sending a separate e-mail calling for a vote on this, but you can start giving it some thought now.
